Nkwanta SHS closed down after riot
The Nkwanta Senior High School (NKWANSEC) in the Nkwanta South Municipality of the Volta Region has been closed down indefinitely.
This follows violent protests by students over the seizure of mobile phones Monday.
District Chief Executive Officer for Nkwanta South, Hon John Tason confirmed this.
Two teachers, according to reports, made an unannounced visit to the dormitories after preps and saw some students making phone calls and seized their phones.
The students allegedly went berserk on Monday night after mobile phones seizures and resorted to the destruction of motorbikes, air conditions and shutters.
They also smashed the windscreens of the Municipal Police Commander among others.
Hon John Tason said students have been asked to go home and given school authorities a week to put things in order so that the school can be re-opened.
Meanwhile, the 30 students who were arrested during the riot have been granted bail, pending further investigations.
