Chairman Wontumi, Dennis Kwakwa, and Daniel Boateng take early Lead ahead of Ashanti Regional NPP elections Survey
Barring any last minute hitches in the election of new officers to man the affairs of the New Patriotic Party(NPP) in the Ashanti Region for the next 4years. Three candidates are likely to stand out as clear favourites.
This follows a survey conducted bySampoll Consult, a non-governmental organisation whose main activities are centred on governance and politics in Sub-Sahara Africa.
The survey conducted across the Ashanti region from December 27th, 2017 to February 18th, 2018, saw the current Regional Chairman who is contesting for a second term winning with a landslide victory
even though one Constituency Chairman has shown interest in competing him for the same position.
From the research,Chairman Wontumi polled 573, representing 96.9% out of the 614 delegates who responded to the survey.
The delegates were enthused about Wontumi’s leadership qualities that contributed in the party winning the 2016 general elections.
The survey also recorded a resounding victory for Dennis Kwakwa, who is seeking to occupy the position of the Regional Youth Organizer. He polled 513 votes, representing 67.85% out of the 803 delegates
who responded to the survey.
The delegates were happy with his work as a communicator for the party and the diverse roles he played in ensuring the party win overwhelmingly in the 2016 general elections.
His closest competitor, Mr. Raphael Sarfo polled 207 votes
representing 23.78%. Many of the delegates believe Mr.Sarfo has not yet gotten that clout and experience to occupy that sensitive position for the next four years.
The other candidates vying for that portfolio shared the rest of votes which is nothing to write home about.
In the Regional Organizer portfolio,Mr.Daniel Boateng, who replaced Mr.Kennedy Kwasi Kankam led the race.He polled 493 votes, representing 59.95% out of the 721 delegates who responded to the
The delegates hold the view that Mr. Boateng, having played a major role as the Regional Organizer in bringing the party to power, should be given the mandate to continue with his good works.
The Regional elections to elect Regional Officers of the party is expected to be held from 21st to 24th April,2018.
